As they talked in recent days, leaving the metal body aside, Xiaomi has opted for the plastic as the main material of the body. Leaving aside that aspect of the design, the company has much more to offer in a product line which, until now, had not been explored. Its strategically priced around $205 which roughly converts to 12,999INR.

Xiaomi Mi 4i  Specifications and Features

Xiaomi has always been characterized by putting the best possible specifications, taking into account the price and the truth is that this Mi4i not disappointing. The device has a screen size of 5 inches, IPS LCD technology (developed by JDI) and Full HD resolution resulting in a pixel density of 441 ppi.

Barra explains in the introduction, that the final product will come with a couple of functions to get more out of the screen. On one side you will have what they have defined as Sunlight Display: a technology where the light sensor is used in the front of the device to adjust the brightness more efficiently and see better in bright ambient light. At the software level there will be a correction of all images for the highlights of the photos to look smoother.

Its based on Qualcomm’s Octacore Snapdragon 615 processor (4x 1.7 GHz+ 4x 1.1 GHz) with 64-bit architecture, this is the same processor used in Micromax’s YU Yureka and HTC Desire 820. So far we could not taste the power of this SoC but it looks like it will be a benchmark in the midrange. On the other side it will have 2GB of RAM and 16 gigs of internal storage, sadly it doesn’t have expandable microSD card slot.

The battery aims to be one of the key aspects of the Mi4i which is a 3120 mAh capacity, and is a more typical amount for a mid-range phone these days. The battery is manufactured by Sony and hopefully the results are as good as the Sony Xperia Z3. Barra promised that the device boasts a 1.5 days of battery life with normal usage.

Xiaomi Mi 4i Camera and Features

They didn’t want to compromise on camera sensors that do not give good results and thus they have added high quality sensor from Sony/Samsung to offer equally good results that Xiaomi Mi Note offers. It’s a 13MP shooter at the rear and the 5MP selfie camera in the front which is a 80-degree wide angle lens.

The presentation has focused a lot on the quality of the front camera and the software inbuilt which has features to correct facial imperfections, beauty and the possibility of taking selfies quickly without having to tap on the screen. Nothing we have not seen but they are options that add to the experience of everyday life. 13 MP rear camera will also have automatic HDR mode. Unlike other Xiaomi phones, color correction is added in Mi4i to reduced noise in low light. The flash is a dual tone one which helps in capturing images with natural colors.

Xiaomi Mi 4i Runs Miui v6

Mi4i runs on MIUI v6 out of the box which is based on Lollipop. The presentation served as carpet to present MIUI 6 Lollipop and so it proved. Miui 6 has got many features and they seem to make the UI easy and interactive.

The mobile seems to rank fairly well with its great specification and price point. There are many mid-range smartphones from different vendors at this price bracket, like the newly launched ASUS Zenfone 2. The competition is very stiff, so we’ll have to wait and see how Mi 4i out performs its competition. Leave your thoughts in the comment section below.
