Did You Know That YouTube Is A Social Media Site?
While many people know that YouTube is a video sharing site, they do not know that it is also considered a social media site too. There are many different ways that it can be used socially and there are some things you can do and not do to make it an enjoyable experience. Just as with anything online, you have to follow the proper etiquette rules in order to maintain your social experience. The following are some ways that YouTube makes being social easy.
Connecting with Others on YouTube
You want to connect with others on YouTube and this means making friends with them. Before you do this, look at their page and see if you have any common interests but don’t be too critical because the more friends you have, the better it is for your channel. You also want to cater to those who are putting in a great deal of time on their channel; you do this by spending time with them on theirs. Post comments on their videos and offer good advice and they’ll do the same for you.
Give Credit to Others
If one of your friends gives you a great idea for a video and you use it, make sure you give them credit in the description box and even in the comments. They will appreciate your acknowledgement of them and will respond in kind if you give them some advice. This is the same as in the real world; friendships are give and take so make sure you are not the one doing all the taking. Give back and you will be well rewarded.
Never Beg for Anything on YouTube
One of the worst things you can do is to beg those who view your videos for likes, favorites or subscribers to your channel. This is a great way to lose friends very quickly and people who are already subscribed may drop you. If you need more subscribers, consider purchasing them from a reputable site until you can get your own built up through normal routes. Whatever you do, do not think that asking for this is ever ok as it makes you look lame.
Don’t Be Overly Sensitive
Finally, you do not ever want to be overly sensitive. As in the real world, the online world is full of those who will attempt to bully you or who will say nasty things about your videos. These are called trolls online and they are the bane of the internet community. Everyone has them and if you act like they are bothering you, you are only feeding into their game. Grow a thick skin and don’t feed the trolls and eventually, they will leave you alone.
Yes, YouTube is a video sharing site but it is also one of the top social media sites on the internet too. You can make many friends if you follow the tips posted above and just offer good quality videos that people want to view, like and eventually subscribe to your channel.
